Sorry about the lack of posts recently it's just that we've been on a 9 hour plane journey (2 hours delayed) from Melbourne. (We left from Auckland to there and transfered straight into our big long flight). Once we arrived at Singapore, we had to get a bus ride into the border where we left the country. We were now in no country, neither here, nor there, between Singapore and Malaysia. We then start heading towards the Malaysian border when Bruno decides to have a little spew all down his front and into the bushes (I hereby name this land Chunderland!) fortunately no other symptoms have been seen so Bruno probably will be OK. Anyway, we crossed over into Malaysia. We had traveled into 3 different countries in less than 24 hours!!
We crashed at a pre-booked hotel called The Lotus. It was pretty basic but still, better than nothing (oh and the room had air-con (essential!!!) and an OK TV)
One down-side here is that they have a substitute for toilet paper- called hoses.Another downside (I discovered this at a prestigous, public toilet this afternoon!) is that usually the toilet is just a porcelain hole in the ground with a tiny hole for all the faeces to be flushed down, charming!
I would also like to tell you that the heat takes 2nd place in my list of hotness, coming shortly after lava and just before fire.
I am introducing a new thing to my blog called the Fun-O-metre I will use this to scale Theme-parks and also the Prestige-O-metre, to scale hotels.
Fun-O-metre: Today we went to Legoland, Malaysia (apparently the biggest one there is). We started off with what we thought would be a gentle, tame ride (but turned out to be an extreme roller coaster). Since it was Friday and a fore-cast of rain (which ,luckily, turned out to be wrong) there was basicaly no que for the entire thing: the longest time we had to wait was 5 minutes! But anyway the roller-coaster gave me a new meaning of: dropping your guts as you go up the 10-metre climb then went full speed ahead! (this was on the side of Legoland so you could see the road) As we turn a corner I yell out "Dad, will your weight throw us off?!! Luckily, we are still one the track but with the sight of the road, mere centimetres away!
Next, we went around doing tame things but one thing I do recommend is Lego city. I thought it was very cool! They had made miniature famous cities of that region/country. India was my favourite, where they made a great job of the Taj Mah Hal (I've got a good photo). After all that we went inside a castle we thought it would be a tame ride, because as soon as we got inside, there was a wizard with a starry, glowing wand and he was moving it up and down, the work was amazing! They had made every single figure/figurine out of tiny 2 by 4 pices of lego! and believe me, there were a lot of figures/figurines.Anyway, it turned out that the roller-coaster was the big kahuna of them all! We went on diagonal angles upwards and downwards, backwards and forwards. Naturaly, I had my eyes closed and was screaming like a little girl! But after 6 goes I was doing it with my arms folded.
All and all I gave it a stunning 11/10 for all the tiny details that they put in to make the big things great. Sadly, we missed out on a 4-D movie! (where, when, say a man falls into water, they spray water at you e.t.c. e.t.c.)
Prestige-O-metre: The Lotus Hotel had a friendly receptionist. The room itself was nothing special. Here are some down-falls: A huge crack running through the window (curtains to hide it and keep the cool in) thankfully, the room had air-con wich was a life saver! They also had a TV with good reception. I gave the hotel 7/10 because of the I-pad being flat and we had no adapter! Also, it was the first night there and I hadn't adapted to the climate and the air-con didn't help much help. In addition the bathroom door had a few gaps in the top as well as a mosquitoe spawning pool.
Prestige-O-metre: Bela's place: I think this hotel was marvelously made, after a while you get used to concrete walls but fine beds and pillows. It has also got a computer which I'm using right now for this entry! They also found an adapter to charge the I-pad after a failed attempt to charge it on the computer. We asked if anyone had an adapter and hey presto! We found one off another guest. Late, lat night I saw a small lizard running across the walls, eating the mosquitoes; good for us and good for him/her. Not for the mozzies!
When we were walking around the town trying to find a money changer, (and after a breakfast of KFC ,as Will says: Kids fattening club!,) an argressive goose honked at me as well as a little duck. I walked up to the goose and saw a circular cage with hamsters and bunnys. No prizes for guessing what it was!
Inside the pet shop, there were lots of fish, some of them include : puffer fish (me and dad were having a debate about this, when the store owner came and told us it was a puffer fish) next, we saw swordfish (6 of them) and also pirahnas ("what big teeth you have") and also a crazy turtle thing with no shell that isn't actually a turtle. The pet-shop owner showed us a picture of the turtle-thing with a big long name that I forgot, so no picture this time!
Were off to investigate China Town in Melacca now and have some exotic food (hopefully not alive!)
